Six Sigma represents not only a quality methodology but also an organizational culture that embraces interdisciplinary teamwork.

This is one of the most important reasons why each Six Sigma project involves specific roles for individuals with different competencies and responsibilities. Each role within a project is critical to ensuring the project’s success, both technically and strategically.

Green Belts are team members who support Six Sigma projects while continuing to work in their own departments. They are involved in operational tasks such as data collection, process measurement, fundamental process analysis and implementation of recommended solutions. These individuals contribute to process improvement using the Six Sigma methodology while continuing their daily work.

Black Belts are full-time leaders of Six Sigma projects and possess in-depth knowledge of Six Sigma’s technical and statistical tools. They develop project plans, coordinate teams, and are responsible for conducting process analyses. They also mentor Green Belts, developing their competencies. Black Belts aim to achieve project objectives by identifying the root causes of errors and developing lasting solutions.

Master Black Belts are the individuals who define and drive Six Sigma strategy across the corporate structure. They serve at the strategic level and assume critical responsibilities such as selecting new projects, developing training programs, and developing Black Belts. This role is crucial for ensuring Six Sigma is embedded in the company culture and maintaining sustainability.

Champions are typically selected from among the company’s senior executives and are responsible for ensuring projects align with corporate objectives. They guide the Six Sigma team on critical issues such as allocating resources, prioritizing and securing senior management support. Without the support of champions, projects are unlikely to secure the necessary budget and organizational strength.

The collaborative and harmonious work of those assigned to these core roles, defined within the Six Sigma quality approach, is fundamental to the success of Six Sigma projects.

Green Belts within the team focus on the details and operation of the process, while Black and Master Black Belts guide the project by focusing on analysis and making strategic decisions. Champions ensure that all these efforts align with the company’s broader goals.
